The Thornton Police Department is set to launch its new automated traffic safety program to change driver behavior, curb reckless speeding, and make Thornton streets safer for all. Red-light cameras will be installed in all directions at the following intersections:
- East 88th Avenue and Washington Street
- East 120th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard
Two mobile speed vehicles will also be placed at various high-risk locations in the city.
All cameras will be operational by the end of 2025. Watch Thornton Police social media and website for updates on warning periods and live dates.
When you call our non-emergency number (720-977-5150), you’ll now hear an automated message, available in both English and Spanish, with several options to help connect you to the right resources more quickly.
Options may include records, property & evidence, code compliance, municipal court, or non-emergency police, fire, medical, and animal control.
Remember, for any immediate emergencies, always call or text 9-1-1.
Many non-emergency reports can also be submitted online at thorntonpd.org/report.
We appreciate your patience as we roll out these new features, and we hope they make getting the assistance you need easier and faster.
Thank you for working with us to keep our Thornton residents safe and connected!
The Blue Envelope Program is a community-focused initiative designed to promote calm and informed communication during traffic stops, emergency responses, and other interactions with first responders. Participants use a clearly marked blue envelope to store essential documents—such as a driver’s license and registration—alongside guidance for both the individual and first responders.
Our primary responsibility is to serve and protect our community by responding to emergencies, preventing crime, and building trust with those we serve. While we may collaborate with federal agencies in situations that impact public safety, our focus remains on keeping our city safe for everyone.
